29th December 2009 Here is an extraordinary article by Chris Hedges - truthdig - One Day We'll All Be Terrorists - about a man imprisoned for delivering socks and punished thus:

It is torture as science. In Germany, the Gestapo broke bones while its successor, the communist East German Stasi, broke souls. We are like the Stasi. We have refined the art of psychological disintegration and drag bewildered suspects into secretive courts when they no longer have the mental and psychological capability to defend themselves.

This corruption of our legal system, if history is any guide, will not be reserved by the state for suspected terrorists, or even Muslim Americans. In the coming turmoil and economic collapse, it will be used to silence all who are branded as disruptive or subversive. Hashmi endures what many others, who are not Muslim, will endure later. Radical activists in the environmental, globalization, anti-nuclear, sustainable agriculture and anarchist movements - who are already being placed by the state in special detention facilities with Muslims charged with terrorism - have discovered that his fate is their fate.

Courageous groups have organized protests, including vigils outside the Manhattan detention facility. They can be found at www.educatorsforcivilliberties.org or www.freefahad.com. On Martin Luther King Day, this Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. EST, protesters will hold a large vigil in front of the MCC on 150 Park Row in Lower Manhattan to call for a return of our constitutional rights. Join them if you can.

The case against Hashmi, like most of the terrorist cases launched by the Bush administration, is appallingly weak and built on flimsy circumstantial evidence. This may be the reason the state has set up parallel legal and penal codes to railroad those it charges with links to terrorism. If it were a matter of evidence, activists like Hashmi, who is accused of facilitating the delivery of socks to al-Qaida, would probably never be brought to trial.

Formidable corporate law firm Morrison Foerster files complaint against CIA and asks the court to strike down the Feres Doctrine as unconstitutional, which gives the government immunity for harm it does to government personnel.

Despite the passage of four decades, America and its military have never come to grips with its own ghastly programs of using soldiers as guinea pigs to test chemical or biological weapons such as LSD, sarin, nerve gases, plague, mescaline, anthrax and hundreds of others. At the same time, they also conducted mind-control experiments, as soldiers and others were administered drugs, and septal implants were inserted in the sinus cavities a la "The Manchurian Candidate." "The experiments involving human subjects were one of the key beneficiaries of the recruitment of over 1,500 scientists and technicians from Nazi Germany in "Project Paperclip", some of whom played a pivotal role in, e.g. the testing of psychochemicals and development of a new truth serum. Over half of these recruits had been members of the SS or Nazi Party. The "Paperclip" name was chosen because so many of the employment applications were clipped to immigration papers."

Between the U.S populace and the facts they require for informed consent lies an "in between" domain. In that realm is found a network of like-minded fifth column operatives whose pro-Israeli bias works unseen - yet in plain sight - to shape public opinion around a predetermined agenda. That agenda-shaping "news" routinely features commentators from think tanks who share the same bias.

Annie Machon, Cambridge Univaersity Classics graduate, has worked in the areas of counter-subversion and international terrorism within M15. After becoming aware of gross mismanagement and state-sponsored murder, Machon resigned and blew the whistle. Machon stands with experts in many fields who believe that there are serious problems with the official narrative of 9/11 that need to be investigated.

Now there is a link to a simply wonderful interview with the lucid and elegant Annie Machon, who is riding to our rescue on a white horse, reminding everyone how things should be done by doing what's right and being true. An intrepid soul.

I found that article after reading in the same journal an article that expressed something of my own intense disquiet, even misery some of the time, because the BBC has not mentioned on any new programmes that I have heard on BBC Radio 4 this week the Israeli attack upon the Spirit of Humanity in international waters, threatening the boat, boarding her, and kidnapping her passengers and crew who are all still in prison today in Israel.

It seems an awful lot to me. But I am informed that it probably only represents about one sixth of the USA's annual oil consumption.

Much more important is the TAPI Pipeline
The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India Pipeline, scheduled to deliver thirty billion cubic metres of oil every year from the Caspian region in Turkmenistan. In August 2001 the Taliban withdrew from ten years of US negotiations over this pipeline, a challenge to the Iran-Pakistan-India pipeline, IPI.

Operation Enduring Freedom? With John McCain and Barack Obama now arguing about widening the Afghanistan war and invading Pakistan, the TAPI natural gas pipeline has a better chance than freedom ever had. It would be an American-controlled cash cow that would hurt Iran. All the US needs to do is pacify Afghanistan with more troops (to safeguard TAPI) and balkanize Pakistan (to stymie IPI) while widening the war and antagonizing India. Freedom be damned. Freedom was never an option anyhow, especially when there's money to be made by endless war.

23rd January, 2009. There is something about the Gary McKinnon case that terrifies me. It appalls me how this country is failing to defend his quest for truth, and near throwing him to the wolves, though he could not help doing his duty; it is typically so fundamental a part of some people's nature to serve the truth. This is something that has been important to the function of democracy and the whole concept of public service in the past. There are people who do what is right just because it is right, and their sense of justice and curiosity propels them forward.

There would not be so few to defend him if more people of intelligence and integrity were to step aside from the dance a moment and consider what his case might mean to the future of his countrymen.

"British computer 'hacker' Gary McKinnon has won permission to launch a fresh High Court challenge over moves to extradite him to the United States. Lawyers for Gary McKinnon, 42, from Wood Green, north London, argued his health would suffer and he would be at real risk of suicide if extradited on charges of hacking into US military networks. Two judges ruled that his case "merits substantive consideration" and granted him permission to seek judicial review of Home Secretary Jacqui Smith's decision last October that extradition should take place. Mr McKinnon faces a lifetime in jail if he is found guilty in the US of sabotaging vital defence systems after the September 11 terror attacks. His supporters said he acted through "naivety" as a result of his Asperger's Syndrome - a form of autism - and should not be considered a criminal. POWER: "At half past nine this morning we were actually running an exercise for a company of over a thousand people in London based on simultaneous bombs going off precisely at the railway stations where it happened this morning, so I still have the hairs on the back of my neck standing up right now."

ITV HOST: "To get this quite straight, you were running an exercise to see how you would cope with this and it happened while you were running the exercise?"

POWER: "Precisely."
